Olympic College Golf Closes League Play at Gold Mountain, Turn Attention to Skagit Invite

Olympic College Golf wrapped up the fourth and final league match used for NWAC championship qualification this week by hosting conference opponents on the Olympic Course at Gold Mountain Golf Club, closing a tightly contested spring league schedule for both the men's and women's programs.

Men Narrowly Miss NWAC Team Qualification

The Olympic College men's team finished seventh at the home league match with a two‑round total of +62, as Bellevue captured the event title at +14, followed by Skagit Valley (+24) and Spokane (+30). South Puget Sound and Columbia Basin tied for fourth at +45 to round out the top five.When league placement points from all four qualifying matches were finalized, Olympic College missed qualifying for the NWAC Championships by just 3½ placement points, narrowly falling outside the top‑five cutoff required to advance as a team. The tight margin underscored how competitive league play remained throughout the spring and how every position factored into the final standings.Individually, the Rangers were led by Alex Moore, who tied for 17th at 156 (+12) with rounds of 76 and 80. Raymond Jennings followed with a steady 160 (+16), while Matix Thorne posted one of Olympic College's strongest rounds of the tournament, firing a second‑round 76 to finish at 164 (+20). Colin Whitehead (164), KJ Bentz (167), and Kaiden Scott (181) rounded out the Olympic scoring.Despite the narrow miss, the men's team closed league play showing clear improvement and remained in NWAC contention until the final event.

Women Qualify Three Individuals for NWAC Championships

On the women's side, Olympic College completed league play with an eighth‑place team finish at +308, while Bellevue claimed the league title at +70, followed by Skagit Valley (+94) and Southwestern Oregon (+98). Although the Rangers did not qualify for the NWAC Championships as a team, all three Olympic College women—Kiyomi McKenzie, Samantha Hooker, and Kaylee Cushman—earned individual qualification and will represent Olympic College at the NWAC Championships on May 18–19, 2026, at Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima, Washington. McKenzie led the Rangers at the final league match with rounds of 105 and 106, gaining valuable multi‑round experience as part of the program's continued growth this spring.Before postseason competition begins, Olympic College Golf will compete in its final invitational of the season at Avalon Golf Club in Burlington, Washington, scheduled for Sunday and Monday, May 3 and 4. The event will serve as the final tune‑up before championship play begins in Yakima. As conference play comes to a close, Olympic College Golf does so having taken meaningful steps forward—pushing the men's program to the brink of team qualification and sending three women to represent the Rangers on the NWAC championship stage.
