The Olympic College men's basketball team faced a challenging weekend at the Titan Classic in Tacoma, dropping matchups to host Tacoma and South Puget Sound but gaining valuable early-season experience against two of the NWAC's estabished programs.
OC opened the tournament on Friday night against a high-powered Tacoma squad and matched the Titans bucket-for-bucket early behind the inside presence of Reece Rheinschmidt, who poured in 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Rangers. D'Angelo Moore and Nathaniel Campbell each added 17 points, attacking the lane and converting consistently at the free-throw line. The Rangers put up 89 points and shot nearly 48 percent from the field, but Tacoma's perimeter shooting proved the difference as the Titans knocked down 13 threes on their way to a 105–89 final. Olympic's competitive first half and strong finish offered encouraging signs as the team settled into tournament play.
On Saturday, the Rangers returned to the floor to take on South Puget Sound and again showed bright moments despite a 93–76 defeat. Nathaniel Campbell followed up his strong opener with 14 points, while Reece Rheinschmidt added another 13 points and 6 rebounds. D'Angelo Moore chipped in 11 points, and Gavin Cortez and Eli Kraft provided sparks off the bench. Olympic shot a solid 47 percent from the field, but SPSCC's hot start and 12 made threes created too much separation. The Rangers continued to compete throughout the second half, tightening defensively and sharing the ball with 11 assists on 26 made baskets.
Despite the two setbacks, the weekend showed meaningful development for a young Rangers roster—highlighted by balanced scoring, improved ball movement, and strong interior play from multiple contributors. With two competitive contests against quality opponents now under their belt, Olympic turns its focus back home with important adjustments in hand and confidence that their best basketball is ahead.
The Rangers return to action at home on Tuesday, November 25, when they host Highline at 6 p.m. inside the Bremer Student Center.
