Olympic College split a non‑conference doubleheader with Mt. Hood College on Saturday at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds, falling 6–3 in the opener before responding with a 5–1 win in game two. The games served as valuable tune‑ups during the conference bye week as the Rangers remain firmly in second place in the NWAC West Region.
In game one, Mt. Hood used timely extra‑base hits and capitalized on mistakes to pull away. Olympic jumped ahead early with a three‑run second inning, highlighted by a two‑RBI single from Tegan Jenkins, but the momentum shifted as Mt. Hood scored two runs in the third and four more in the fifth. Ethan Staples started for the Rangers and struck out four over three innings, while the bullpen battled through traffic the rest of the way. Olympic finished with seven hits, including multiple‑hit performances from Jenkins and Dominic Hecker, but was unable to reclaim the lead late.
The Rangers bounced back in the nightcap behind disciplined offense and strong pitching. Olympic scored twice in the second inning and added runs in the sixth and eighth to build separation. Dante Acacio led the offense by going 3‑for‑4 with an RBI, while Josiah Gooding added two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base. Greyson Prichard delivered a pair of RBI, and Tegan Jenkins chipped in two more hits as Olympic totaled 11 hits in the win.
On the mound, Bass Frye set the tone with three scoreless innings and six strikeouts, followed by sharp relief appearances from Silas Stenerson, Iain Loverink, and Ryder Dingsdale. Wyatt Robinson closed the game in the ninth as the Rangers limited Mt. Hood to three hits overall and held them scoreless until the final inning. Olympic struck out 13 batters in the contest while committing no defensive errors.
Olympic now turns its attention back to conference play with a critical four‑game series against first‑place Lower Columbia College on deck. The series opens Thursday on the road before shifting back to the Kitsap County Fairgrounds on Saturday for a noon and 3 p.m. doubleheader, as the Rangers look to gain ground in the NWAC West race.
