Ranger Alumni Cesar Cuevas Signs Pro Contract in Mexico
Ranger Baseball Alumni, Cesar Cuevas, has signed a pro contract with Liga Mexicana de Béisbol to play for Fernando Valenzuela's team, the Tigres de Quintana Roo. The league is equivalent to AAA semi-pro ball in the US, though not affiliated.
After OC, Cuevas attended Antelope Valley College, in Lancaster, California, for a semester. After working for a stint, he played in Ranger, Texas, for the Palm Springs Collegiate League, then for the United Shore Professional Baseball League. It was out of the USPBL that Cuevas was signed to play in Mexico.
Looking back, Cesar is grateful for his time with OC. "I have taken 2 major things from OC," he shared, "My freshman year I played shortstop and was very skinny and not so strong, but I was definitely the mightiest freshman coming in. I was the type of kid who will do as he is told and ask questions later. Every motivational word/speech always got to me - always seeming to hit when I felt stuck. I learned that it's only really you that can motivate you.
"My second year at Olympic I was told I'd become a leader and captain for the team. I was more than excited and eager to show everybody what a great leader I was, until I forgot where I came from and decided to be someone I wasn't. Being around a younger group put into perspective that people all have that same goal and they all have different timings to get there. I had to find my own way to inspire and show my teammates/people that so many others and I truly care. The key is finding that "motivational speaker" within YOU and find that inspiring drive from within your own soul.
Cesar will also become a father of a beautiful daughter in March 2022.
Congratulations Cesar!
