OC Welcomes New Volleyball Head Coach
Bremerton, WA — Ranger Athletics is proud to introduce Layne Martin as the new Head Volleyball Coach, bringing an energetic blend of collegiate playing experience, coaching expertise, and deep Northwest roots to the program.
Martin joins the program after serving as an Assistant Coach at South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC), where she contributed to the development of athletes in the NWAC and supported the Clipper volleyball program’s competitive growth.
A Strong Collegiate Playing Career
Before moving into coaching, Martin built an impressive playing résumé. She competed at South Puget Sound Community College, where she excelled as a multi-position player and earned recognition including NWAC All-Star honors.
Following SPSCC, Martin continued her volleyball career at Warner Pacific University, where she joined the Knights as a transfer and contributed her experience, leadership, and versatility in the outside hitter group. Warner Pacific praised her strong court presence, defensive stability, and leadership qualities.
Coaching Experience and Club Involvement
In addition to collegiate coaching, Martin has been active in club volleyball coaching, helping youth and developing players refine their on‑court skills, competitiveness, and volleyball IQ. Her work at the club level has allowed her to develop a strong coaching philosophy centered on fundamentals, teamwork, and long-term athlete development.
A Pacific Northwest Standout With Local Roots
A native of Washington, Martin grew up in Westport and competed as a standout multi‑sport athlete at Ocosta High School before moving on to collegiate volleyball. Her Washington ties and athlete-first mindset make her a natural fit to lead the next era of the program.
A Vision for the Program
“I’m really thankful for the opportunity at Olympic. I’m excited to get to know the community, build relationships with the athletes, and grow this program together.” Martin shared.
Looking Ahead
With her dynamic coaching background, proven leadership, and deep playing roots in the Northwest, Layne Martin is poised to make an immediate and lasting impact on the volleyball program. The department looks forward to the energy, expertise, and passion she brings into this new chapter.
